May 7, 2009 | General News

RUSTON – Dr. Kimberly Vanderlaan, associate professor of English, has published an article, “Eden’s Blissful Bowre in ‘Coming Aphrodite!'” in the most recent edition of The Willa Cather Newsletter and Review.

Vanderlaan’s article investigates the tension between the carnal, material world and the spiritual, artistic creativity in Cather’s short story.

The journal, a publication of the Willa Cather Foundation, is published in Red Cloud, Neb., and is dedicated to preserving and promoting understanding and appreciation of the Pulitzer-Prize winning author’s life, time, settings and works.

Vanderlaan will present a similarly themed paper exploring the significance of art, the necessities of the world, and the resulting split artistic identity in Cather’s The Professor’s House and My Mortal Enemy at the American Literature Association in Boston, Mass., later this spring.
