Jun 23, 2009 | General News

As the city gears up for the annual Peach Festival this weekend, Louisiana Tech’s IDEA Place is lending a helping hand with a Sunday, June 28 event.

Louisiana Poet Laureate Darrell Bourque will read from his own works and from works of the winner of the state poetry contest, which is part of the nationwide Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial birthday celebration. The event will occur at 3 p.m. in the Lincoln Parish Museum, 609 N. Vienna St.

The winner will be notified this week of his or her award, which will include publication of his or her poem, a gift from the IDEA Place, a gift from the Lincoln Parish Museum and a certificate of achievement.

The poetry competition and reading is hosted by the IDEA Place, the Lincoln Parish Museum, and the Lincoln Bicentennial Commission of Louisiana.
