Dr. Dixie Griffin, a professor of civil engineering at Louisiana Tech, has received the Prosper Toups Training Award from the Louisiana Rural Water Association.

The LRWA provides assistance to small water and wastewater treatment centers in Louisiana. It offers training classes across the state, on-site technical assistance and state operator certification.

Griffin teaches about five short courses a year for the LRWA. The courses help the participants understand the material necessary to pass the operator certification test.

“I enjoy doing it,” Griffin said. “It really helps these guys. Sometimes their jobs or their salaries depend on passing these tests. They’re really intense. I get a lot of satisfaction from teaching (the short courses).”

Griffin has taught at Louisiana Tech since 1984. He received his doctorate in environmental engineering from Virginia Poly Institute and State University in 1978.
