State Poet Laureate to visit Tech Feb. 4

Darrell Bourque, Louisiana’s Poet Laureate, will read from his new book of poetry, “Call and Response: Conversations in Verse,” beginning at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 in Adams Parlor, located on Louisiana Tech’s campus.

Bourque is professor emeritus from the University of Louisiana in Lafayette, where he taught in the English department and in the interdisciplinary humanities program. During his career at ULL, he directed the creative writing program, was the Friends of the Humanities Honor Professor and served as the head of the English department. He also was president of the National Association for Humanities

Education and edited the journal “Interdisciplinary Humanities.”

Bourque’s other books include “Plainsongs,” “The Doors between Us,” “Burnt Water Suite” and /The Blue Boat.” Bourque was appointed Poet Laureate of Louisiana in 2007 and 2009.

The reading, sponsored by the department of English at Tech, is free and open to the public.
