Winter Weather Alert – University Closure

Feb 11, 2010 | General News

DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER, LOUISIANA TECH UNIVERSITY AND TECH-BARKSDALE WILL CLOSE AT 1:00PM ON THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11 AND ALL DAY ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of north-central Louisiana until 4pm on Friday. Sleet and snow accumulation of up to five inches are expected throughout the region.

As this winter weather system moves into other parts of Louisiana and temperatures near the freezing mark, hazardous travel conditions will exist throughout the state. Bridges and overpasses, and rural and secondary roads that are more lightly traveled may become icy and snow covered during the late afternoon and into Friday morning.

Heavy traffic due to the Mardi Gras holiday weekend could further increase the danger of traveling during this winter weather event.

Louisiana Tech’s Emergency Response Team is STRONGLY RECOMMENDING that students, faculty and staff consider delaying long-distance travel on roadways until this weather system passes. Winter precipitation is forecasted to move out of the area late Friday afternoon.

If travel is necessary, please exercise extreme caution and stay alert to worsening weather conditions.

Updates on campus conditions and operations will posted on the Emergency Response Team website at http://ert.latech.edu.
