School of Architecture recognized for program excellence by national publication
Louisiana Tech’s School of Architecture has been recognized by Architect Magazine as one of the nation’s best programs for design and building activities.
Tech was ranked along with institutions such as Auburn University, the University of Kansas, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of Washington for excelling in the Design/Build category.
“The recognition in Architect Magazine places a national lens on north Louisiana and the valuable partnerships created by our faculty, our students and our region’s communities and organizations,” said Karl Puljak, director of Louisiana Tech’s School of Architecture.
“Our design/build and our community service activities have continued to develop over many years because of these strong collaborations. Recognition from an important industry publication suggests that we are doing something important in Ruston.”
Architecture Magazine described Tech’s program as one where “students learn with their hands as well as their heads, participating in a range of design/build activities including annual projects supporting North Central Louisiana Habitat for Humanity. They also have access to an impressive suite of rapid prototyping and digital fabrication equipment.”
The School of Architecture was also commended for its innovative Community Design Assistance Center and University Design Assistance Center which allows students to have a role in Louisiana Tech’s own planning and design initiatives.
“News like this is great to share with our alumni, our friends and prospective students,” said Puljak. “It’s rewarding to know that others are recognizing the efforts of our faculty and students.”
“I think it encourages our current students to continue to work hard and lets them know that they are learning about architecture and interior design at a pretty special place.”
Participating schools were grouped into 11 different categories, based on program strength and according to (in order of priority) their own self-submitted program descriptions, surveys of faculty (both internal & external); and the school’s websites.
