School of Forestry plans for nature trail
Thanks to a grant from the Lagniappe Ladies, Louisiana Tech’s ladies charitable society, plans for a nature trail near the university’s South Campus are underway.
Tech’s School of Forestry received $5,000 to construct the proposed 2,000 foot trail, which will be located on the Tech Arboretum located near Tech Farm.
The trail will provide an outdoor laboratory for student instruction, environmental research and a place for the community to walk. It will feature three dense canopy coverings, species identification signs and a picnic area.
The trail will be located beside the Louisiana Tech Arboretum, which is about 74 acres, including a 14-acre pond. Work on the trail will begin June 4, and it is expected to be completed May 2011.
