Kinesiology professor receives national editorial excellence award
Dr. Kelly Brooks, assistant professor of kinesiology at Louisiana Tech University, has received the 2010 Strength and Conditioning Journal Editorial Excellence Award from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
Brooks was honored at the NSCA’s national conference held in July in Orlando, Florida, where strength and conditioning coaches, sports scientists and fitness professionals from around the world gathered to discuss cutting edge research and practical applications in strength and conditioning, presented by the industry’s most respected experts.
“This award has helped me gain the respect and confidence of my peers in the National Strength and Conditioning Association,” said Brooks. “It will help me become more of a leader within the organization and continue my professional growth.”
“I hope the kinesiology students at Louisiana Tech recognize the importance of this award and the magnitude of the NSCA in our field of study.”
The National Strength and Conditioning Association is an international nonprofit educational association serving nearly 30,000 members in 52 countries. The NSCA is recognized as the worldwide authority on strength and conditioning.
The NSCA’s 2010 National Conference and Exhibition featured more than 50 educational sessions and research presentations, all designed to help attendees to expand their knowledge and further their careers.
“It is a privilege to honor Kelly and recognize her achievement,” says Dr. Jay Hoffman, NSCA’s Board President. “Her well-earned award and her contributions have shaped the NSCA into what it is today.”
In addition to being a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Louisiana Tech’s Department of Kinesiology is a charter member of the American Kinesiology Association.
Undergraduate and graduate kinesiology programs at Louisiana Tech are designed to develop professional practitioners and researchers in the fields of health promotion, fitness, and sports performance and exercise science. Faculty members are highly qualified teachers and researchers who are actively engaged in the study of physical activity from a variety of perspectives.
Louisiana Tech’s kinesiology faculty work closely with students in academic advising as well as academic preparation in an effort to prepare well educated professionals who will make impactful contributions in their chosen career paths.
“This award is an acknowledgement of Dr. Brooks’ outstanding contributions to professional service and provides her and the kinesiology program at Louisiana Tech University with national recognition,” said Dr. Lanie Dornier, chair of the kinesiology department at Louisiana Tech.
