School of Art hosts its first national juried art exhibition
Louisiana Tech’s School of Art will host its first national juried art exhibition, “Louisiana Purchase: National Biennial Juried Exhibition” March 2 through April 7.
This is a multimedia show for two-dimensional works, including video, exploring any theme. The School of Art received over 145 submissions for a total of over 600 artworks. Juror Barbara Bloemink chose 33 artists to share their work in the exhibition, for a total of 74 works.
“The Louisiana Purchase Exhibition is a wonderful amalgam of works in all media, demonstrating the variety of subjects, media, approaches, styles that characterize interesting art today,” Bloemink said. “There is no one way of making art that is privileged over any other and there are exciting works to be found in every area from the realistic, more narrative works to the abstract.”
Bloemink will give a lecture at 5 p.m. Tuesday, March 15 at the School of Art. Bloemink is executive director of the Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado. She has also served as the curatorial director of the Smithsonian’s National Design Museum and as director and chief curator of five art museums including the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia and the Hudson River Museum
The Louisiana Tech University School of Art galleries are located in the Visual Arts Center between Tech Drive and Mayfield Street, next to the Natatorium and across from A.E. Phillips School. The galleries are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free. For more information please call the School of Art at 318-257-3909.
