Tech brings home 14 ADDY awards
Louisiana Tech communication design majors brought home a total of 14 awards from the 2010 American Advertising Competition, sponsored by the American Advertising Federation of Shreveport-Bossier.
Seven undergraduate and two graduate students won the awards with their entries, and most of them were created as class projects at Tech. The awards were presented to the students at an awards banquet in Shreveport attended by marketing, advertising, graphic design and public relations professionals from the Shreveport area.
The competition, better known as the ADDY awards, is a showcase of professionals’ work from the Shreveport marketing area, and it also attracts student entries from Tech, LSU-Shreveport and Centenary College. A three-judge panel of advertising industry leaders juried both professional and student print and broadcast advertising/communication design entries.
Gold ADDYs represent the highest achievement in excellence. Student Gold awards were presented to Katelyn Murray, a senior from Alexandria, and Haley Frautschi, a senior from Shreveport. Murray entered a series of newspaper ads for SweetLeaf sweetener, and Frautschi submitted an annual report for Converse shoes. Frautschi’s annual report also won the award for Best of Student entries.
Graduate student Jessica Hawkins, of Shreveport, won awards in the professional division of the competition with entries developed for clients of Blue Jay Creative, her personal design agency. Hawkins’ entries of promotional campaign materials for ClearView Church and Slaughterhead Accessories both won Gold Awards. The Slaughterhead entry also won Best of Print, a highly coveted professional accolade. Gold-winning entries are all submitted to the AAF District 10 ADDY competition, where they will vie with student and professional entries from Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas.
The Silver award-winning student entry was submitted by Caleb Sylvest, a senior from Mandeville, who won with an annual report for Nintendo Corporation.
Six student Bronze ADDYs were given to seven Tech students. Graduate student Clay McKaskle, of West Monroe, submitted a poster; Caleb Sylvest submitted an ad campaign and also a poster design; Anna Broussard, a senior from Alexandria, won with a newspaper ad series; Paul Murray, a senior from Haughton, submitted a magazine ad campaign; and Graham Simpson, a senior from Ruston, and Jacob Newton, a senior from Alexandria, teamed together to win with their corporate identity campaign. Jessica Hawkins also won a Bronze ADDY in the professional division for her non-profit organization-support website.
