Barnes & Noble College Booksellers, LLC and McAlister’s Select Deli held their grand opening celebrations Monday on the campus of Louisiana Tech University, providing new retail and food services for visitors and members of the campus community.

Executives from the two companies joined Louisiana Tech administrators and members of the Ruston-Lincoln Chamber of Commerce for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially welcome students and guests.  Each company is committed to providing high-quality products and services, and new shopping and dining options.
“It affirming to have such high-caliber companies as Barnes & Noble and McAlister’s invest in Louisiana Tech University,” said Dr. Jim King, vice president for student affairs.  “It provides exciting opportunities for the people of Ruston and offers our students outstanding new services.”
King said it was important to find corporate partners, like Barnes & Noble and McAlister’s, which also share the same organizational philosophies and commitment to excellence as the university.  Through these partnerships, Louisiana Tech is redefining customer service and specialized services across the campus.
One of the most profound outcomes of these new partnerships is how revenues generated through patronage of these entities are reinvested back into the university.  They will help to create student scholarships, employment opportunities, campus activities and new student services.  Louisiana Tech receives a percentage of every dollar spent by students, faculty and staff, in the bookstore and campus restaurants.
“Louisiana Tech believes these strategic partnerships can bring enhanced services to faculty, staff, students, and the Ruston community,” said Dickie Crawford, dean of student life and auxiliary services.  “We want everyone to know they are welcome to shop and eat on our campus.”

Crawford believes that if the campus and surrounding communities recognized that eating and shopping on campus could help to fund future scholarships, employment, and campus amenities, they might choose to frequent these establishments more often.
These partnerships are a product of Tech 2020, Louisiana Tech’s long-range strategic plan and foundation for the future direction of the institution.  The university recently revised elements of Tech 2020 in an effort to direct campus-wide attention and energy toward student recruitment, retention and success.  These new relationships will create a variety of opportunities for the university and the students it serves.
As a market leader in college bookstore operations, Barnes & Noble uses technology and industry expertise to provide students and faculty with a variety of cost-effective options for obtaining textbooks and other academic resources.  They have also been a leader in identifying and adapting to recent changes in the textbook industry.
McAlister’s Select, often found on college and university campuses and concentrated office environments, offers a limited menu of delicatessen-style items, with selection prepared in a “to-go” fashion.  Menu items include a variety of sandwiches, potatoes, salads, soups and desserts, and beverages.
