Tech journalism students rack up awards at LPA
Editors and photographers on staff at Louisiana Tech’s student-run newspaper, The Tech Talk, received multiple awards from the Louisiana Press Association, including first, second and third place for Best Sports Photo in the Better Student Newspaper Publication competition.
The awards were announced April 30 at the LPA convention held in Marksville.
Winners from Tech included the following:
* Sarah Brown of Madisonville — 1st place, Best Sports Story/Feature
* Ben Corda of DeRidder — 1st place, Best General News/Feature Photo; 2nd and 3rd places, Best Sports Photo
* Sean Zhou of Ruston — 1st place, Best Sports Photo
* Kelly Belton of Simonton, Texas — 2nd place, Best Column
* Robert Wilson of Boyce — 3rd place, Best Column
“We are proud of what our students have achieved in these competitions,” said Dr. Reginald Owens, chair of the journalism department. “This has been a banner year for The Tech Talk and the journalism department. No doubt, these achievements represent a lot of work and dedication. They have competed against the best and came out on top. So far this year, our students have brought home 26 awards from four competitions. They have represented us well.”
