Journalism professor elected to statewide office
Dr. Elizabeth Barfoot Christian, an assistant professor of journalism, has been elected to serve as vice president of Louisiana Press Women for the 2011-2013 term.
“I am excited to be able to get involved in service to this organization,” Christian said. “I have been involved only very superficially, and I look forward to this great opportunity. I am fortunate to have the president, who has been involved as the vice president, Keli Jacobi, just down the road at University of Louisiana at Monroe. I will work to help her better the organization and reach out to all of our journalism and communication students and recent graduates in the area and let them know how much LPW involvement can benefit them. Plus, I think feedback from them can make LPW more responsive as to how the organization can be more proactive and beneficial to its members.”
Other LPW officers for 2011-2013 are:
President — Keli Jacobi of Monroe
Treasurer — Carol Anne Blitzer of Baton Rouge
Secretary — Sheila McCant of Baton Rouge
Louisiana Press Women is a state affiliate of the NFPW, a non-profit organization that has promoted excellence and ethics across media platforms for more than 70 years. The organization is committed to protecting First Amendment rights and professional growth for the future.
