Homecoming week filled with activities for entire family
The football game against the San Jose Spartans may be on Saturday, Oct. 29, but Louisiana Tech has a flurry of activities available for students and alumni alike all week for this year’s Homecoming.
Ryan Richard, director of alumni relations, said the excitement that’s surrounding Tech football and the numerous changes taking place on campus should entice alumni to visit Tech.
“It’s a great time for alumni to come back and see what’s taking place at their alma mater,” Richard said. “It’s a great Tech family reunion weekend.”
Activities from the yearly parade to the performance of “Our Town” by the School of Performing Arts to various reunions are planned for this year’s Homecoming. Additionally, two campus areas will be renamed during Homecoming week: the bookstore atrium will be renamed the Virgil Orr Bookstore Atrium at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, and Hide-Away Park will be renamed the Garland Gregory Hide-Away Park at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28.
The annual Alumni Awards Luncheon will be held on Friday, Oct. 28 as well, honoring distinguished alumni from each of the colleges and the Alumnus of the Year and Young Alumna of the Year, Jerry Hudson, Class of 1961, and Emily Doan Howell, Classes of 2006 and 2009. Tickets for this noon event are $20 a person or $160 for a reserved table of eight. Tickets for the Alumni Awards luncheon must be purchased by Sunday, Oct. 21.
“This is a great way to honor some of Tech’s finest graduates,” Richard said. “All of the colleges of the university will be represented as well as the overall Alumnus of the Year and Young Alumna of the Year.”
Another Homecoming highlight is the 1961 class reunion, where the alumni association will honor those who graduated 50 years ago and over 50 years ago.
Events that require reservations include the Class of 1961 reunion and Golden Society Brunch, the Alumni Awards lunch, the African American network reunion from 7-10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 28, and the spirit group reunion.
