Tech hosts fall choral concert
To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, Louisiana Tech will host a fall choral concert filled with music and discussion about this event.
“A Bit of Byrd and a Bit of Bard” will begin at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8 in Howard Auditorium on Tech’s campus. Lectures will be given by Dr. Edward Jacobs, former dean of the College of Liberal Arts; Dr. Jeffrey Hankins, an associate professor of history; and Dr. Jeremy Mhire, an assistant professor of political science.
The combined choirs of Concert Choir, Chamber Singers and North Central Masterworks Chorus will sing choruses from Messiah by Handel.
Additionally, the Concert Choir and Chamber Singers will sing pieces by William Byrd and songs with Shakespeare text. Byrd and Shakespeare were contemporaries in 1611, when the King James Bible was written.
The concert is free and open to the public.
