Tech to receive donation of wearable art
Louisiana Tech’s Museum of Fashion and Textiles will donations of wearable art, thanks to an alumna.
Dorothy Williams, of Monroe, is donating wearable art to the museum Thursday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. in Carson Taylor Hall, Room 273. Williams, a 1953 graduate, has sewn since she was four and has received numerous awards for her wearable art.
Dr. Linda Sivils, the museum’s curator, said the museum has pieces of clothing dating back to the 1800s, but these donations from Williams would be considered wearable art.
“She’s very creative and very artistic,” Sivils said. “She’s done a lot of things besides garments, and she hand-makes everything herself. They are more of pieces of art than fashion. They’re really quite interesting.”
On Thursday, Williams will donate two pieces, but she plans to donate four in total. Sivils said the pieces are quite valuable.
“We thought it would be interesting for our apparel design students to see such creative work,” Sivils said.
The Museum of Fashion and Textiles is located in Carson Taylor Hall, Room 349 and is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information about the museum or the donations from Williams, contact Sivils at 318-257-3044.
