Percussion Ensemble scheduled

The first North Louisiana Youth Percussion Ensemble Festival will take place this weekend in Howard Auditorium.
The event will begin with a 7:30 p.m. concert on Friday, March 16 in Howard Auditorium and will feature guest artist Dr. Blake Tyson. Tyson is a composer and performer who teaches at the University of Central Arkansas. He will perform several of his own works.
The Implosion Percussion Group, comprised of musicians Gregory Lyons, Mel Mobley, Michael Holdiness and John Pirkey, will also be featured at Friday’s concert.
On Saturday, March 17, area high school students will perform in Howard Auditorium from 10 a.m. until noon. At 1 p.m., Tyson will present a percussion clinic, and a final 7:30 p.m. concert featuring the Honors Youth Percussion Ensemble and the Louisiana Tech University Percussion Ensemble.
Tickets for the evening performances and the afternoon clinic are $5 adults, $3 students with an ID and can be purchased at the door. T-shirts will also be available for $15. For more information, contact Gregory Lyons at (318) 257-5470 or glyons@latech.edu.
