SPA to host jazz concert
The Louisiana Tech School of the Performing Arts is ready to liven things up at the Louisiana Tech Jazz Ensemble, which is under the direction of Lawrence Gibbs, a professor of music.
The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 10 in Howard Auditorium.
Additionally, Leon Anderson, director of Jazz Studies and an associate professor of music at Florida State University, will receive the first Alumni of the Year award.
Since his graduation from Louisiana Tech in 1992, Anderson has been active in the professional jazz scene. Appearing as the night’s featured guest artist, Anderson is scheduled to perform three numbers with the Tech Jazz Ensemble.
In addition to Anderson, Dr. Lisa Maxedon, an assistant professor of music, will perform a rendition of “What a Difference a Day Made,” a jazz classic that was recently recorded by Natalie Cole. Other students will be featured in the concert.
The Pete Hills Memorial Scholarships will also be awarded during the event.
The concert is free and open to the public.
