Tech journalism department shines with nearly two dozen LPW awards

Faculty and staff in Louisiana Tech’s department of journalism received 22 awards from the Louisiana Press Women’s Communication Contest, including 16 first place awards.
The first place awards will go on to the national competition, which will be judged in May.
Students who placed are as follows:
Kelly Belton, of Simonton, Texas: First place in Column Writing and Design
Molly Bowman, of Shreveport: Second place in News Writing
Amber Guyotte, of Jonesboro: First place in News Writing and second place in Feature Writing and Column Writing
Dacia Idom, of Lake Charles: First place in Photography
Amie Rolland, of Keithville: First place in Special Series, News Writing for Radio or TV, and Feature Writing
Rebecca Spence, of Cypress, Texas: First place in Editorial Writing
Anna Claire Thomas, of Monroe: First place in Sports Writing
Mary Timmons, of Greenwood: Second place in Specialty Articles in Arts and Entertainment
Dr. Reginald Owens, chair of the journalism department; Dr. Elizabeth Christian, assistant professor of journalism; and Judith Roberts, instructor of journalism, received first place for Faculty Adviser of Student Publications.
Additionally, Christian received first place in Blogs (Web Content Written for Corporate or For-Profit Organization Sites) and second place in Personality Profile (More than 500 words) and Specialty Articles – Reviews.
Roberts received first place in News or Feature Release – Single Release, News or Feature Releases – Multiple Releases and Web Site Edited by Entrant.
