Author to speak at annual Constitution Day
James W. Ceaser, who has published multiple books regarding American politics and American political thought, is slated to be this year’s keynote speaker for Constitution Day.
Ceaser’s lecture, which will begin at 10:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 in Howard Auditorium, will explore the ways in which the American Constitution is not only a document which establishes basic institutions and rules of government but is also one of the chief sources of national cohesion.
“Professor Ceaser’s Constitution Day Lecture will be a wonderful opportunity for students, faculty and the public to engage with the ideas that are essential to what it means to be an American in the 21st century,” said Dr. Jason Pigg, an associate professor of political science.
The event is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the Joe D. Waggonner Center for Bipartisan Politics and Public Policy and Tech’s department of social sciences, with additional support from the Jack Miller Center for Teaching America’s Founding Principles and History in Philadelphia, Pa.
The Jack Miller Center foundation works with college faculty, administrators and donors to improve education for students on campuses across the country.
“The program offers students a unique opportunity to engage in a civil discussion of the fundamental questions animating a free society with some of our nation’s leading scholars, jurists and officials,” said Dr. Michael Andrews, executive officer and vice president for academic programs at the Jack Miller Center. “The long-term goal of the initiative is to bring back the critical study of American constitutionalism to the curriculum. We are very pleased to support Professor Pigg’s program at Louisiana Tech University.”
