The Louisiana Music Teachers Association selected Louisiana Tech associate professor of music, Dr. Joe L. Alexander, as the 2012-commissioned composer.
Alexander’s composition, “Scenes from Heinrich Heine’s North Sea Picture,” premiered earlier this month at the LMTA annual conference on the University of Louisiana at Monroe campus.
Several Tech music faculty members performed, including Lawrence Gibbs, Randall Sorensen, Lisa Maxedon, Greg Lyons, Cain Budds and Ann Sorensen. Alexander directed the faculty performance of his composition.
Alexander said he has had two big commissions in his 12 years working for Tech.
“It really is a great honor,” he said.
The performance was funded through LMTA and the Music Teachers National Association. Alexander’s composition will be featured at the National Association of Composers concert at 3 p. m. Sunday, Nov. 4 in the Howard Auditorium Recital Hall.
