Louisiana Tech University will offer several workforce development and certificate level classes over the next few months and leading into the fall quarter at its Shreveport Center, located on Shreve Park Drive.

Some of the courses to be offered include Lean Manufacturing/Six Sigma, Society for Human Resources Management, Healthcare, and Handgun/Defense.  The Shreveport Center is also partnering with Louisiana Tech’s Department of Continuing Education and the Princeton Review to provide instructor-led test preparation for exams such as ACT, GMAT, GRE, MCAT, and LSAT.

“The new courses being offered at the Shreveport Center are answering some requests for training in the region,” said David Merchant, interim director of continuing education and distance learning, and workforce coordinator at Louisiana Tech.  “For example, we offer our Green Belt Six Sigma course which is the only one of its kind in north Louisiana in that it is in-person and will come with the required project completion certification from an accredited University.

“We have already had quite a bit of interest from those discharging at Barksdale and have the need for the course to add to their resume for workforce skills when they retire or discharge from active duty.

Merchant says that the Louisiana Tech Shreveport Center will also offer courses for law enforcement that will help to meet the needs of the region as it pertains to new requirements of the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council (POST) in 2014.

In addition to the courses offered at the Shreveport Center, Louisiana Tech Barksdale is offering a number of postsecondary education programs and courses taught on Barksdale AFB that are designed to meet the needs of Air Force and civilian personnel.  Active military personnel, retirees, civil service workers, dependents, and off-base civilians are eligible to attend classes at Louisiana Tech Barksdale.

Louisiana Tech, north Louisiana’s premier research university, continues its commitment to the Shreveport/Bossier City communities through the development of educational and economic development opportunities that are needed for the region to thrive in the 21st century economy.
