Dr. Jenna P. Carpenter, associate dean for undergraduate education and professor of mathematics and statistics in Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science, has been elected as one of twelve new Fellows of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE).

The newly elected Fellows were announced in Atlanta, Ga. during last month’s ASEE 120th Annual Conference and Exposition.

The designation of Fellow is one of unusual professional distinction and is conferred by the ASEE Board of Directors upon an ASEE member with outstanding and extraordinary qualifications and experience in engineering or engineering technology education or allied field, who has made appropriate and important individual contributions. Fellow member status is a distinction conferred upon those who have been members for at least 10 years with special attention given to an individual’s contributions within ASEE.

“Jenna Carpenter has distinguished herself as a leader in engineering education through national service in ASEE and in other professional associations,” says Dr. Stan Napper, vice president for research and development at Louisiana Tech and former dean of the College of Engineering and Science.  “She brings extraordinary organizational and communication skills to all of her professional activities.  We are very proud that ASEE has recognized these contributions by awarding her Fellow status.”

In addition to her election as ASEE Fellow, Carpenter will also serve as First Vice President of the Mathematical Association of America (MAA), beginning in February 2014.  She has previously served the MAA as a member of the Board of Governors of the Louisiana-Mississippi Section.

“Dr. Carpenter is very deserving of this recognition from American Society of Engineering Education,” said Dr. Hisham Hegab, interim dean of Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science.  “She has been an active leader in ASEE and continues to make outstanding contributions to engineering and science education at the national level, and at Louisiana Tech.”

Carpenter is a member of the Board of Directors for Women in Engineering Pro-Active Network (WEPAN), and recently won the prestigious Distinguished Service Award from the organization. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes WEPAN members whose individual service has made a significant impact on the organization.
