Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science has received an anonymous pledge of $500,000 in support of the Campaign for a New Integrated Engineering and Science Building, pushing the campaign past the $5 million mark with a total of $5.46 million having been raised.

The new total also includes a $50,000 gift from Orion Marine Group in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Stan Napper, vice president for research and development for Louisiana Tech and former dean of the College of Engineering and Science, says moving the campaign past the $5 million mark shows how much College alumni and area industry support this endeavor.  He says the public needs to be aware of this project which is the college’s single most important need.

“Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science is already regarded as a national leader in engineering and science education because of its integrated and projects-based approach,” said Napper.  “Unfortunately, our facilities have not kept up with our academic reputation.  This building will provide new active learning space for first and second year students, for the first time since Bogard Hall was opened in 1940.

“The modern facility will also serve as an excellent recruiting tool for our college, especially in east Texas where many high schools have outstanding facilities and where many of our peer colleges have also recently built new facilities.”

Louisiana Tech believes the new engineering and science building could generate between 200 and 250 more engineering graduates each year.

“The building will provide active, integrated learning environments for our first and second year engineering and science undergraduates, and will be located in close proximity to the engineering resources in Bogard and Nethken Halls,” said Dr. Hisham Hegab, interim dean of the College of Engineering and Science.  “It is part of our strategic plan to help attract, retain, and train the best engineering and science students.”

The three-story Integrated Engineering and Science Building will be located within Louisiana Tech’s Enterprise Campus and will feature new active classroom laboratories, new offices for faculty, collaboration spaces for students and a state of the art auditorium.
