ExxonMobil Corporation has awarded Louisiana Tech University and its College of Engineering and Science $23,000 in academic grants, as part of their nationwide Departmental Grants Program.

Louisiana Tech’s civil engineering, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering programs will each benefit from the funding provided by ExxonMobil.  This year, ExxonMobil has awarded $2 million in academic grants to 83 colleges and universities.  During the last ten years, ExxonMobil has provided more than $20 million dollars to higher education institutions.

Dr. Hisham Hegab, interim dean of the College of Engineering and Science, says these funds are vital to the College particularly during these financially challenging times in higher education.

“Grants like this one from Exxon Mobil allow us to greatly enhance the academic experience of our students,” said Hegab.  “The funds are used for a variety of educational purposes including scholarships, field trips, visiting speakers, equipment purchases and student and faculty travel.  We are grateful to Exxon Mobil for their continued support of our College.”

The Departmental Grants Program is one of many ExxonMobil efforts in support of education.  ExxonMobil supports education initiatives that encourage students to take an active interest in math and science careers, motivate students to learn and perform well in math and science, and provide support for the development of highly qualified teachers especially in the areas of math and science.

Louisiana Tech University promotes interdisciplinary collaboration in every college. The College of Engineering and Science is one of 14 universities affiliated with the National Academy of Engineering (through its Center for the Advancement of Scholarship on Engineering Education).
