BestColleges.com, an online resource with data for students and parents on nearly 7,000 colleges and universities, has ranked Louisiana Tech University No. 48 in the nation for providing its students with a high return on investment (ROI), according to its 2014 Colleges with the Best Return on Investment list released Tuesday.

Louisiana Tech was the only university in the state to be ranked in the top 50 and was the second lowest cost institution on the list.  According to the rankings data, average total costs for Louisiana Tech students are $69,980 with an average 30-year net ROI of $804,100.

Other institutions to make the top 50 include Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Texas A&M University, University of Virginia, University of Alabama, Clemson University and University of Michigan.  The State University of New York’s (SUNY) Maritime College landed the top spot in this year’s list.

“Value and outcomes have become essential factors for students in considering which college is best for them,” said Louisiana Tech President Les Guice.  “Louisiana Tech is recognized as one of the best options in the nation for students seeking affordability and a high return on their educational investment.

“I am pleased that our university has continued to receive these accolades and is creating opportunities for our students to be successful during and after their college careers.”

The rankings are based on information collected by Payscale.com for its most recent list of high ROI universities.  It looked primarily at the average total costs for students, financial aid packages and the salary levels and employability of graduates at nearly 400 U.S. colleges and universities.  Survey results from employees that hold master, doctoral or any other advanced degrees were not included in the survey data.

Louisiana Tech has received a number of national rankings for low cost and high ROI over the past year.  Tech was ranked highest in the state in starting median pay and ROI by PayScale.com, highest in Louisiana and No. 21 in the nation for best ROI by AdvisorOne, and highest in Louisiana and No. 17 in the nation among “Low Cost Colleges with High Starting Salaries for Graduates” by Affordable Colleges Online.

U.S. News & World Report ranked Louisiana Tech as a Tier One National University while Newsweek has ranked Tech as one of the nation’s “25 Most Affordable Colleges.”
