The Frontiers of Engineering Education (FOEE) Symposium brings together the nation’s emerging engineering leaders from industry, academia and government labs to recognize, reward and promote engineering education and facilitate collaboration across engineering fields.
Caldorera-Moore, who is also teaches and conducts research in molecular science and nanotechnology, and nanosystems engineering, said that she plans to use the techniques learned at the symposium in all of her classrooms and with her controlled drug delivery research team, which includes graduate, undergraduate and high school students.
“This symposium will give me the opportunity to share my innovations and ideas with other leaders in education, receive constructive feedback and learn from others’ experiences,” said Caldorera-Moore. “I can then add new techniques to my teaching methodology and Louisiana Tech’s already innovative platform in engineering education.”
As an FOEE attendee, Caldorera-Moore will learn a variety of innovative methods currently used in other engineering programs, classes and labs, and bring those techniques back to Louisiana Tech to enhance the biomedical engineering core curriculum and help Louisiana Tech students become leaders in their field in the 21st century. The program will assist in forming an on-going, self-supporting cohort committed to innovation and sustained excellence in engineering education.
“We are so pleased that Dr. Caldorera-Moore has been selected for this prestigious opportunity,” said Dr. Jenna Carpenter, associate dean of undergraduate studies for Louisiana Tech’s College of Engineering and Science. “Her selection is a reflection of her outstanding accomplishments as an educator and researcher, together with the unique environment at Louisiana Tech that fosters and sustains cutting-edge innovation in engineering and science education.”
Caldorera-Moore joined the Louisiana Tech College of Engineering and Science in fall of 2013 as an assistant professor and serves as a researcher for the Center for Biomedical Engineering Rehabilitation Science. As a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, Caldorera-Moore conducted research with Georgia Tech Professor Krishnendu Roya and went on to receive her doctorate in biomedical engineering from UT-Austin in 2010.
