Senior Air Force scientist to serve as spring commencement speaker

Louisiana Tech University’s spring commencement will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23 at the Thomas Assembly Center with Dr. Kamal T. Jabbour, Senior Scientist for Information Assurance, Information Directorate, Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) in New York, serving as keynote speaker.

As the principal scientific authority and independent researcher in information assurance, including defensive information warfare and offensive information warfare technology, Jabbour’s primary role with the AFRL is to conceive, plan and advocate major research and development activities. He is also responsible for monitoring and guiding the quality of scientific and technical resources, and providing expert technical consultation to other Air Force organizations, Department of Defense and government agencies, universities and industry.
Jabbour earned his bachelor of electrical engineering degree with distinction from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, in 1979. He also earned a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Salford in England in 1982.
Since earning his academic degrees, Jabbour has completed several professional seminars and courses, including the Executive Leadership Seminar with Air University and Senior Joint Information Operations Applications Course, both at the Maxwell Air Force Base in Alabama. He has also completed the Safety Investigation Board President Course at the Air Force Safety Center in Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico, and the National Reconnaissance Operations Center Systems Knowledge Course in Rome, New York.
Before his position as Senior Scientist for Information Assurance with AFRL, Jabbour taught computer engineering at Syracuse University in New York and served as senior computer engineer and principle computer engineer for the Air Force Research Laboratory.
Jabbour is also an avid runner, having run marathons in all 50 states and receiving the Bob Rodale Golden Shoe Award for contributions to the running community from Runner’s World.
Louisiana Tech’s spring commencement will officially mark the end of the spring quarter. Summer quarter classes will begin Wednesday, June 3.
