College of Engineering and Science, ISERC to host grant writing workshop
Louisiana Tech University’s College of Engineering and Science and the Integrated STEM Education Research Center (ISERC) will host a grant writing workshop for future graduate students, August 28-29 on the Louisiana Tech campus.
The workshop is open to faculty and advanced undergraduate students who are interested in the National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP). Each faculty member is encouraged to accompany 2-3 students sent by their college.
Students will learn the requirements for the NSF GRFP application and how to think carefully about responding to the NSF review criteria. In addition, students will have the opportunity to draft narratives for their applications under the guidance of faculty mentors from their own institution along with Louisiana Tech faculty. Louisiana Tech research and graduate study opportunities will also be showcased during the workshop.
Dr. Katie Evans, director of mathematics and statistics and industrial engineering and director of ISERC, says that the workshop is great opportunity to expose talented students to opportunities for world-class research in their region.
“We are excited to provide students and faculty from over 12 colleges with the opportunity to participate in this workshop,” Evans said. “Louisiana Tech faculty from science, engineering and mathematics are excited to volunteer their time to make this workshop a great learning experience for everyone involved.”
“This workshop is great opportunity for us to help students be more successful in pursuing graduate studies and research,” Dr. Hisham Hegab, dean of the College of Engineering and Science at Louisiana Tech, added. “I appreciate the effort of our engineering and science faculty to provide this service to students in our region.”
