CBERS to co-sponsor Industry Day 2015

The Louisiana Tech Center for Biomedical Engineering and Rehabilitation Science (CBERS) will co-sponsor “Industry Day 2015” along with the Center for Cardiovascular Diseases and Sciences at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center, Shreveport (LSUHSC-S).

The Industry Day 2015 conference will take place on September 18 at the Louisiana Tech Shreveport Center, located at 8028 Shrevepark Drive in Shreveport. Students, trainees, scientists and clinicians conducting biomedical research are encouraged to attend and learn more about the interface between the laboratory and industry.
Dr. Jan Sumerel, vice president of research and development at Stratasys, Ltd., and Mr. Matthew Womack, senior product manager at the Medtronic Inc. Deep Brain Stimulation Division will serve as the event’s keynote speakers.
The goals of Industry Day are to establish collaboration between Louisiana Tech and LSUHSC-S for increased funding of and commercialization and licensing of biotechnology, inspire innovation in cardiovascular research and biomedical engineering, expose students and trainees to opportunities at Louisiana Tech and LSUHSC-S, and explore methods of transitioning discoveries to the commercial sector.
The morning session will open with remarks by Dr. Leon Iasemidis, director of Louisiana Tech’s CBERS) followed by Womack’s keynote presentation titled, “Neuromodulation: An Industry Perspective on the Past, Present and Future.” Other morning presentations will be led by Dr. Jamie Newman, the Scott Weathersby Endowed Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at Louisiana Tech; Dr. Ed Glasscock, assistant professor in the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy at LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport; Dr. David Mills, professor of biological sciences and biomedical engineering at Louisiana Tech; and Dr. Jeff Weissman of LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport.
The afternoon session will begin with Sumerel’s keynote presentation titled, “3D Printing: Current and Future Applications in Biomedicine”, followed by a presentation by Dr. Chris Kevil, professor in the Department of Pathology, Molecular and Cellular Physiology, and Cell Biology and Anatomy at LSU Health Sciences Center-Shreveport. The event will conclude with a poster session and refreshments.
