Louisiana Tech chapter of Institute of Industrial Engineering wins Gold Award
Louisiana Tech University’s student chapter of the Institute of Industrial Engineering (IIE) has received the 2015 Gold Award, the highest recognition that IIE can give to a student chapter, for its performance over the past year.
Each year, the IIE recognizes the most active student chapters throughout the world with Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. The Louisiana Tech chapter was honored with the Gold Award for its activities in 2014-2015 that included holding fundraisers, bringing guest speakers to Louisiana Tech, organizing plant trips and attending the IIE regional conference. The Louisiana Tech chapter earned the Silver Award in 2012, 2013 and 2014.
Abhas Joshi, the 2015-2016 president of the Louisiana Tech chapter of IIE, says that the Gold Award is the result of a huge effort to promote industrial engineering throughout the region. “Last year, the IIE officers worked hard to support the industrial engineering students at Louisiana Tech,” Joshi said. “The IIE officers of this year want to build on those endeavors by helping all the industrial engineering students and bringing home the Gold Award again.”
IIE is the world’s largest professional society dedicated to the support of the industrial engineering profession and individuals involved with improving quality and productivity. The organization provides leadership for the application, education, training, research and development of industrial engineering.
“I am very pleased that our student chapter won the Gold Award,” said Dr. Jun-Ing Ker, program chair and associate professor of industrial engineering and faculty advisor of the Louisiana Tech IIE student chapter. “This is the highest recognition that IIE can give to a student chapter. The IIE does not have local professional chapters in nearby cities such as Shreveport and Monroe. Therefore, activities initiated by our student chapter are invaluable to help student members build career professionalism while at Louisiana Tech.”
