Louisiana Tech Jazz presents spring concert
Louisiana Tech University’s Jazz Ensemble will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 12 in Howard Auditorium.
The concert, titled “Retro-Central,” is a salute to the jazz/funk music from the ‘70s through the ‘90s, including the music of “Tower of Power,” Steely Dan and Harry Connick Jr.
Guest artists will appear with the Jazz Ensemble. Ruston vocalist Jarrett Bailey will sing lead vocals on the music of “Tower of Power,” and Adam Jones of the Equinox Jazz Orchestra and Howard Shaft will sing Harry Connick and play trombone with the group. Additionally, Cain Budds, a professor of guitar/theory at Tech will sing and play guitar on some Steely Dan. Local keyboardist Joey Richard will also be featured on keyboards.
This event will also be the last appearance for Lawrence Gibbs, an associate professor of music, who is retiring from Tech after 27 years of service.
The concert is free and open to the public.
