Hurtig publishes internationally-authored French volume
Dr. Dolliann Hurtig, professor of French at Louisiana Tech University, is serving as the editor-in-chief of Allons au cinéma: Promoting French through Films, Volume II, published recently by the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF.)
The volume includes articles by 17 authors writing on Francophone films around the globe. All articles are written in the French language and cover a variety of themes including immigration, class difference and social status, coming of age, cuisine, the place of classical French literature in modern times, multiculturalism, war, diversity, identity and workplace discrimination. Hurtig, who serves on the faculty of the School of Literature and Language in Louisiana Tech’s College of Liberal Arts, also provided an article on Daniel Auteuil’s film, La Fille du puisatier.
Hurtig and Joyce Beckwith, assistant editor of Allons au cinéma: Promoting French through Films, Volume II, held a three-hour workshop to launch the new publication at the National AATF Convention held last month in Austin, Texas. For the workshop, 10 authors presented their films and an interactive discussion with workshop attendees.
During the conference, Hurtig, who holds the rank of Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Palmes Académiques, was also an invited guest at Chez Nous, hosted by the Palmes Academiques.
During the convention, Hurtig and Beckwith, who also serve as co-chairs of the National Commission on Cinema, hosted a commission session inviting members interested in contributing to a third volume of Allons au cinéma: Promoting French through Films to exchange ideas.
Given the positive response they received, the Commission will devote Volume III to a specific theme of Identité, Immigration, et Nous (Identity, Immigration, and Us). Hurtig will serve as editor-in-chief for Volume III with Beckwith as assistant editor.
