Award-winning poet's reading set for April 12
April 12, the Louisiana Tech English Department will present poet Claire Bateman for a craft talk, reading of new work, question-and-answer session, and book signing.
Her two most recent books will be available for purchase. Events will be open to the public at George T. Madison Hall. The craft talk will be conducted in Room 223 at 4 p.m. with remaining events in room 105 at 5:30 p.m.
From Greenville, South Carolina, Bateman is renowned poet with two Pushcart Prizes. She is currently an advisory editor for Orison Books. Her books include The Bicycle Slow Race, Friction, At the Funeral of the Ether, Clumsy, Leap, Scape, Coronology, and Locals. Creative writing students will have the opportunity to work one-on-one with the writer. Bateman will review students’ previously submitted work and offer suggestions and revisions.
Mark Halliday called Claire Bateman a “visionary comic-religious poet” and “a unique dreamer.” Bateman has taught at Clemson University, the Greenville Fine Arts Center, and various workshops and conferences. She held a year-long residency in creative writing at Ohio University.
