Louisiana Tech University enrolled a record number of first-time freshmen this fall quarter, and these students are the most qualified in the University’s history.

With an increase of 13 percent over last year’s freshman class, Louisiana Tech welcomed 2,169 first-year students. Their average ACT is 25, eclipsing last year’s all-time-high average ACT of 24.7.

“These new students will continue to carry on our tradition of excellence and success throughout their college careers and beyond,” said Tech President Dr. Les Guice. We are pleased to see the enthusiastic spirit of this class and look forward to seeing what they achieve over the next four years with us. I commend our faculty and staff for providing the great educational environment that is attracting more students to Louisiana Tech.”

In the past year, the University has made significant investments in campus infrastructure, including adding new suite-style student housing options. Campus grounds have undergone substantial improvements, with new lighting and landscaping, and the addition of new trees to help create a 21st Century Campus. Students, faculty, and staff also have access to updated dining options designed to increase healthy food options and the opportunity to come together as a campus community.

“Each of the improvements we’ve made – with the help of alumni, friends, and our supporters – have increased the quality of life and safety for our community,” Guice said. “This academic year, we anticipate that the Tech Family will enjoy campus life in a whole new way.”

The most in-demand undergraduate programs are mechanical engineering, biology, and computer science. Overall enrollments including extension and graduate students totaled 12,467 students.

The record freshman enrollment follows last week’s release of U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best Colleges list. For the eighth consecutive year, Louisiana Tech was named one of the nation’s top National Research Universities.
