Integration BEE Set for Jan. 22, 29

The Math program has scheduled the Third Annual Louisiana Tech University Integration BEE for Jan. 22 and 29.

Undergraduate students from majors around the University are invited to participate in the tournament-style competition to see who has the most skill at solving integrals.

Students must first complete a qualification round, consisting of a timed 25-question paper test in George T. Madison Hall 105 on Tuesday, Jan. 22. Participants with the top 32 scores will move on to the tournament round, which will be held in Davison Hall 213 on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

The tournament will consist of five rounds, in which students compete one-on-one to solve complex integrals on the fly and under pressure. The student with the quickest ability to solve the problems correctly will advance to the next round until the Supreme Champion is crowned.

Dr. Jonathan Walters, lecturer of mathematics and faculty organizer of the event, says that he expects to see heated competition at the event. “As of right now, we’ve got a great group of returning competitors from last year as well many new faces. I’m excited to see who emerges as the victor this year.”

First – fourth place winners will be awarded gift card prizes from Amazon, Chili’s, Chick-fil-A and Starbucks, respectively. Registration forms are available in George T. Madison Hall rooms 330 and 352.
