Louisiana Tech will host the eighth annual Symposium on Communicating Complex Information (SCCI) Feb. 25-26.

An annual event focusing on how individuals share scientific and technical information with different audiences, the 2019 Symposium will be held at Tech’s Academic Success Center in Bossier City. The event is open to the public and is free for all to attend. 

The Symposium brings together researchers from across the country and around the world to share research on how humans perceive, understand, and use information. The objective is to identify approaches for conveying scientific and technical information in ways that persons can use effectively in their work or their daily lives. 

Presenters represent researchers in academia and in industry, and this year’s keynote speaker, Tom Johnson – a Senior Technical Writer at Amazon.com – will discuss the topic of “Tech Comm Trends: Providing Value as a Generalist in a Sea of Specialists.” 

Organized by the Technical Communication program at Tech and with sponsorship from the Eunice C. Williamson Endowment in Technical Communication, the event highlights the work the University is doing in interdisciplinary research involving science, engineering, communication, and the arts.  The Symposium program also includes a dedicated Williamson Health & Medical Communication Track in recognition of Tech’s pioneering work in health and medical communication and the groundbreaking interdisciplinary work the University is doing in areas like medical visualization, health and medical writing, biomechanical engineering, and the usability and design of health and medical technologies.
