Louisiana Tech Biology Professor Dr. David Mills has been invited to present at a special scientific session at the European Orthopedic Research Society Congress (EORS) 2019 in October in Maastricht, The Netherlands.

Dr. David MillsTitled “Racing for the Surface: Infection and Interface Bone Tissue Engineering,” the featured symposia is being sponsored by Springer, a leading international publisher that provides scientific and professional communities with specialist information. Mills has contributed three chapters to this particular Springer three-book series on Orthopedic Implants; the books are edited by Drs. Thomas Webber and Bingyun Li.

Springer has planned a special reception after the session to honor speakers who contributed to the book series.

This past winter, Mills and his research partner Dr. Grayson Gremillon, a south Louisiana ear nose and throat physician, won the BioChallenge Pitch Competition at the BioInnovation Center conference in New Orleans for their SimplyBreath concept. SimplyBreathe is a small intranasal 3D printed steroid-eluding microbead — an implant — designed to slowly release medicine for four months to relieve nasal infections, both allergic and chronic. The device is also an example of how Tech is developing and using its research to solve either uncommon or, in this case, common problems.

Mill’s BioMorph Laboratory is used for designing novel and dynamic nanofilms for many complex and life-improving applications, and his NERO Laboratory supports a K-16+ outreach program that provides solid educational content and a strong technical foundation in both the molecular sciences and bionanotechnology.
