Louisiana Tech University will host the second “Louisiana Tech Usability Studies Symposium” Sept. 19-21 at the Academic Success Center in Bossier City. 

The event will bring together researchers from education, industry, and government to discuss developing technologies that meet the needs of today’s society. Sponsored by the Eunice C. Williamson Endowment, the Symposium is organized by Tech’s Technical Communication program within the College of Liberal Arts and coordinated by Professor Kirk St.Amant, Eunice C. Williamson Endowed Chair in Technical Communication at Tech.

Usability focuses on creating technologies that are easy to use and designing products that fit seamlessly into everyday life. The Symposium will consist of a mix of formal presentations and open discussions to review current practices in the designs of technology.  Attendees will include researchers from art, communication, and design and represent a range of organizations from across the country.

The Symposium is one of the first events hosted by Louisiana Tech’s Usability Studies Research Center,  which is focused on improving how we design technologies to meet the needs of society. The goal of the Center is to provide both Tech and the greater community with resources for planning the designs of new products and guiding the development of cutting-edge technologies. To achieve these objectives, the Center integrates research and teaching practices to provide both students and community members with unique learning experiences. It also offers workshops, seminars, and other resources that contribute to the development of local businesses and the operations of local government and non-profit organizations.
