Louisiana Tech’s School of Design (SOD) has lectures from accomplished visitors on Monday and Wednesday the second week of February.

The first features Vivian Beer, a furniture designer/maker based in New England. Her lecture, “Making In and Out of the Studio,” is at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 10 in the F.J. Taylor Visual Arts Center, Room 109.

The second features ESPN Senior Designer Titus Smith and is at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, also in the F.J. Taylor Visual Arts Center Lecture Hall (Room 103).

Beer won Ellen Degeneres’ Design Challenge on HGTV four years ago. Her sleek, abstracted metal and concrete furniture combines the aesthetic sensibilities of contemporary design, craft, and sculpture.

Smith grew up on a farm in Kansas, failed as a radio personality, booking agent, and band manager, moved to Connecticut in 2015 and, despite no formal design education, is now a Senior Designer for the worldwide leader in sports broadcasting.
