Harvey joins Tech as new Title IX Compliance Director
Mortissa Harvey joined Louisiana Tech University this week as Title IX Compliance Director.
Harvey comes to Louisiana Tech University from Atlanta Technical College, where she served as chair of Student Disciplinary Committee Hearings and program chair for Criminal Justice. She was Title IX Decision Maker for the college while helping teach Atlanta’s next generation of law enforcement professionals. While there, Harvey was also recognized as Instructor of the Year in 2019. Her skills in the justice system were honed through her service as a Pretrial Release Officer and Court Support Supervisor in Fulton County.
Harvey is a 1995 graduate of Tech with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. She earned her master’s degree in Criminal Justice from Clark Atlanta University and is pursuing her doctorate in Higher Education Administration.
“Mortissa brings more than two decades of experience to her service here at Louisiana Tech,” said Tech President Dr. Les Guice. “During the interview process, she easily created relationships with students, faculty, and staff, and her selection for the position was unanimous.”
Louisiana Tech created the Compliance Director position this year. Carrie Flournoy formerly served as Title IX Coordinator.
“One of her first responsibilities as Director will be establishing new training and processes related to Title IX here at Tech,” Guice said. “We look forward to Mortissa’s continued work in the service of justice at Louisiana Tech.”
For Harvey, Title IX compliance is about ensuring everyone involved in the process is treated fairly.
“Working with our students, faculty, and staff to ensure an equitable Title IX process will be my primary focus as we begin the new academic year,” Harvey said. “Offering appropriate training for all our students – and continuing to offer that training throughout their learning experience here at Tech – will allow all students to connect with the office and their responsibilities in relation to Title IX.”
