Louisiana Tech University’s Fashion Merchandising students will partner with Ruston’s Artisan Gallery to create the program’s third annual Fashion Karaoke Show to be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 14.

This interactive show will showcase the talent of the Ruston community through decades of fashion and popular music. Performers will be given a popular song from different decades and an outfit to match the iconic style of the time.

Fashion Merchandising students, with the assistance of the class’s instructor Penny Humphries, have the opportunity to use vintage clothing from the fashion program’s Dr. Linda Sivils’s collection, which holds approximately 5,000 garments from different eras. This gives students an opportunity to style and create a more dramatic interpretation of the performer and the song they are performing.

“This is an amazing opportunity for our students to play around with the iconic styles that were popular during different decades,” Humphries said. “It also gives the community a way to see the talent within our Fashion Merchandising department.”

Eleven performers have been chosen for this event after being selected from individual auditions. The first place winner of the Fashion Karaoke Show will receive $500 and their styler will receive recognition and bonus points towards their final grade.

“This is a unique event that can boost a student’s confidence when it comes to styling diverse individuals,” Humphries said

The event will take place on the north side porch of the Ropp Center on Louisiana Tech’s campus. Tickets can be purchased in the School of Human Ecology in Carson Taylor Hall and the Artisan Gallery in downtown Ruston. Group tables can also be purchases with a variety of price options including VIP seating.
