Visiting campus important step in choosing a college

For a senior in high school, choosing a college can be nerve-racking. To help ease the stress, experts recommend touring campus to figure out which college feels like home.

Louisiana Tech University offers tours designed to give families a complete view of the University.

“Our campus visitors really get to see campus through the eyes of the student,” said Emily Poole, Campus Experience Coordinator. “It really gives them more of a complete picture of what life would be like as a student at Tech.”

Families have the opportunity to schedule a weekday tour and get a one-on-one experience with a student recruiter. They will see housing as well as meet with the admissions specialists for their chosen major.

Even if students choose another institution, Poole said a tour can help make that decision easier.

“With Tech, you come and see the family environment, the different places for organizations to come together, and all of the traditions that are on each corner,” student recruiter Cage Watlington said. “People should consider Tech not only because it is one of the best educational institutions in the state, but it’s also a place where you’ll grow as a leader and work on your degree.”

For many students, Tech becomes a home away from home, and their peers become like family.

“Touring Louisiana Tech made my decision feel like a no brainer,” Watlington said. “Between the personalized tour, academic specialist meeting, housing tour, and Emily Poole having a personal talk with me, I knew where I was going to spend my college days.”

Campus tours are also a way for incoming freshmen to get out of their comfort zones.

“I see potential new students walk in timid of what they are going to see. We send them out on tours, and I see them come back in with the biggest smile on their face ready to apply to Tech,” Watlington said.

Upcoming opportunities for campus visits include:

  • March 8 – College of Education Showcase in Ruston
  • March 15 – College of Education Showcase in Bossier City
  • March 19 – Saturday Visit highlighting Women in STEM
