Recycling Rallies to continue through Spring Quarter

The Louisiana Tech University’s Student Government Association (SGA) and PepsiCo Recycling will continue their Recycling Rallies through the Spring Quarter.

This drive-through event allows members of the campus community to come together and keep the area clean, supporting the University’s sustainability goals.

“We have a wide range of participation from students, faculty, and community members,” said Caroline Canatella, SGA Director of Environmental Action. “We have our regulars that come to every drive, but we have new people that come as well.”

This academic year, the event has kept 1,900 pounds of recyclable materials from entering landfills.

“The goal for the recycling rallies is to provide Tech and Ruston community members with an easy and accessible location to recycle,” Canatella said. “We also just want to create a more sustainable environment on Tech’s campus.”

The Recycle Rally collects the following items:

  • PET plastic No. 1 (beverage containers)
  • HDPE plastic/plastic No. 2 (milk jugs, laundry detergent bottles, etc.)
  • Aluminum cans
  • Steel cans
  • PET thermoforms/plastic No. 1 (clamshells and berry baskets)
  • Cardboard

“For anyone who hasn’t been to a recycling event yet, come on out! We love to see new faces,” Canatella said. “Also, stay tuned for a permanent drop-off location in the near future.”

Recycling Rallies are scheduled March 13, March 27, April 10, April 24, and May 8. The drop-off location is near the Jim Mize Track and Field Complex.

New recycling receptacles for bottles and cans have also been placed in Tolliver Hall, the Student Center, the College of Business, GTM Hall, and the IESB.
