New Frontiers to host talk on medical innovation and treatment development

Louisiana Tech University will host a Zoom lecture from Dr. Rachel Humphrey, founding Chief Executive Officer of Normunity, at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 19 as a part of this year’s New Frontiers in Biomedical Research Seminar Series.

Dr. Rachel HumphreyAs a medical doctor, Humphrey has over 25 years of experience in clinical drug development, particularly in the field of cancer treatments and immunotherapies. Currently she leads efforts at Normunity, a Boston-based biotech focused on immune-oncology.

Humphrey’s presentation is titled “Jim Allison: Breakthrough – Driving Innovation in the Development of New Medicines.” Allison received the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2018 for his breakthrough work in cancer immunotherapy and development of a drug that has cured thousands of people.

Through her lecture, Humphrey hopes to share the concept of alternative approaches to cancer treatment and how innovation can continue to occur in the creation of new medicines.

Humphrey was an oncology fellow and staff physician at the National Cancer Institute. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Harvard University and her MD at Case Western Reserve Medical School; she completed her residency in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins.
