The 5th Annual Louisiana Tech University “Game Jam” is Friday, April 14 at 5 p.m. until Sunday, April 16 at 4 p.m. in the School of Design/F. Jay Taylor Visual Arts Center at 1 Mayfield Street on campus.

Tech’s Game Design Minor Program is the host of the event. This new dynamic and innovative program offers a Game Design Minor as well as a Game Design Certificate. The program focuses on hands-on experience, game design theory, and collaboration to help students develop the skills necessary to succeed in the rapidly evolving game design industry.

The annual Game Jam brings together talented game developers from the area for a weekend of creative collaboration and competition. Each year it challenges participants to create a fully functional video game in a small amount of time.

The event is open to participants of all skill levels, from seasoned professionals to enthusiastic hobbyists, and welcomes those who wish to attend in person or online. In-person participants will be provided food throughout the weekend.

Submissions will be accepted until the event’s end at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 16.

Besides showcasing their skills and collaborating with others who have interests in game design, game developers can potentially win prizes in several different categories, including Best Game Design, Best Use of Theme, and Best Art and Sound Design, as well as Most Innovative Game.

“We’re excited to host the 5th Annual Louisiana Tech University Game Jam and bring together some of the most talented game developers from around the area,” said Jerry Berg, founder of Tech’s Game Design Minor Program and Associate Professor of Design, Interactive and Game Design. “This event is a great opportunity for developers. We look forward to seeing the creative games that come out of this year’s event.”
