George A. Baldwin, Jr., a Privileged Director of the Louisiana Tech University Foundation and the 2015 Alumnus of the Year, will become the University’s newest Tower Medallion recipient and be inducted by the Alumni Association into Tech’s Hall of Distinguished Alumni during Fall Commencement Saturday, November 18 at 10 a.m. in the Thomas Assembly Center.

The Tower Medallion Award signifies membership in the Hall and is awarded to Tech alumni who have distinguished themselves by exceptional achievement, community service, and humanitarian activities.

Baldwin and wife Jean began dating at Tech and supported each other through their studies and everything that was “college at Tech” then, including Wesley Foundation, ballgames, intramurals, Regal Blues, Pisa Pizza, and returning soda bottles for enough deposits to score a late-night snack from Griff’s.

Since graduation, the pair has never stopped supporting either each other or their University.

“Jean and I are astonished and humbled by this high honor from our beloved alma mater and sincerely grateful for everything Louisiana Tech has done for us,” said Baldwin, who earned his BS in Petroleum Engineering from Tech in 1978. “We left Ruston well prepared for a wonderful life together and delight in returning often to remember, celebrate, and give back. It’s our hope that this recognition inspires others to do the same.

“Sometimes I go back to March of 1978 and my last class, my last final, moving out of old Neilson Dorm, then graduation,” he said. “All too soon, it was over. I was happy, and sad, but so very proud … proud that for the rest of my life, I would be a graduate of Louisiana Tech University.”

A Registered Professional Petroleum Engineer and business executive, Baldwin is a principal of Baldwin Madden Energy, LLC, and President and Chief Executive Officer of three EnSight Energy oil and gas partnerships.

A native of Shreveport, Baldwin began his professional career with Arkla Exploration Company in 1978. In 1994, he and principals of Brammer Engineering and Keystone Exploration formed Brammer-Keystone Energy, which evolved into the EnSight franchise of oil and gas investment partnerships. Baldwin has guided this enterprise as President since 1997, has successfully concluded three EnSight programs, and still presides over three that remain active, principally in the Haynesville Shale. He has been directly involved in scores of oil and gas acquisition, divestiture, and financing transactions with an aggregate value well over $1 billion.

Baldwin has served on various corporate and non-profit advisory boards and is a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers, the National Society of Professional Engineers, the Louisiana Engineering Society, and Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.

“Each of our (Tech) stories is different, and yet they’re all the same,” Baldwin said. “And all of them together become one great story … a story of youth, of energy, of aspirations and unlimited potential, of determination, of achievement and success — and of hope.”
