The Clinical Residency and Recruitment Center (CRRC) in Louisiana Tech’s College of Education and Human Sciences (CEHS) hosted its annual Mid-Year Recruitment event on Jan. 11, 2024.

This event allowed junior education majors who will participate in their 2024-25 residencies an opportunity to network with school district partners that host residents across I-20. The event also provided senior clinical residents to participate in a traditional teacher recruitment fair.

“Mid-Year Recruitment is such an important day for many reasons,” Dr. Amy Vessel, director of clinical and professional experiences, said. “It’s the first teaching job interview experience for our seniors, it assists our junior teacher candidates with district selection for clinical residency, it connects our faculty to 15 school districts for future research and collaborations, and it provides time for all stakeholders to discuss the future of our profession.”

This year’s event expected 50 stakeholders within districts including Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, Webster, Claiborne, Bienville, Lincoln, Ouachita, Monroe City, Richland, Winn, Rapides, and West Feliciana.

The CRRC’s Mid-Year Recruitment is just one of the outlets for teacher residents to facilitate meaningful connections among school districts and fellow aspiring educators.

“The CRRC is a great way to make connections with schools across Louisiana,” Gabrielle Brister, senior early childhood education major, said. “This year-long residency program has prepared me for real-life experiences in the classroom.”

The CRRC designs and refines capstone experiences for CEHS clinical residents. At the center of CRRC is the Teacher Educators and Mentors (TEAM) model, developed by Vessel and Dr. Dawn Basinger from the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership (CIL). The TEAM model replaces traditional student teaching with a comprehensive clinical residency experience spanning the full academic year. This approach fosters collaboration between Louisiana Tech faculty and K-12 school faculty to train effective K-12 teachers.
