Louisiana Tech University Alumni Association’s East Texas Alumni Chapter has announced the Louisiana Tech East Texas Alumni Chapter Scholarship a $1000 entry-level scholarship.

The East Texas Chapter was formed in the fall of 2019. During the first chapter meeting, the chapter set its sights on promoting regional university growth through their time, energy, and philanthropy. Wes Russell, President of the East Texas Alumni Chapter, shared in the enthusiasm.

“During our second annual crawfish boil in spring 2022, the topic of a scholarship through the support of our chapter was brought back into the spotlight,” Russell said. “The question was ‘How do we get the program started?’.”

With the goal of an endowment through donations made by friends and family of Louisiana Tech, Russell approached boosters Bill and Nancy Slack with an idea to raffle tickets to attend a Louisiana Tech football game in a private suite. Through the raffle, the chapter was able to generate base funds to kickstart the scholarship program.

“Our goal is to grow the current scholarship into the Louisiana Tech East Texas Alumni Chapter Endowment but will continue to help Louisiana Tech students as the program grows,” Russell said. “We encourage all Louisiana Tech alumni and friends to consider contributing to the cause.”
