LTRI professionally developing students through Cyber Technology Practitioner Program
Louisiana Tech University was awarded a grant to create a workforce development program to fill critical needs in the cybersecurity industry sector. The Cyber Technology Practitioner Program (CTPP), under the direction of Warren Ward and the Louisiana Tech Research Institute (LTRI), has established a partnership with the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) to offer up to seven certificates on various cybersecurity topics at zero cost to students involved in the program.
Although these certificates do not provide academic course credit through the University, they give the students an advantage in their future careers, as professional certifications are earned prior to graduation from Louisiana Tech. During the 2024 fall quarter, students had the opportunity to complete certificates centered around emerging technologies fundamentals, resulting in twenty-five completed certificates.
Ashley Brumfield, a senior computer information systems student, commented on her transformative experience in the CTPP and the opportunities gained throughout the program.
“The program provides access to valuable industry-recognized certifications, which have greatly enhanced my technical skills and career readiness,” Brumfield said. “Beyond certifications, the networking opportunities and the chance to learn from professionals across diverse fields have been unparalleled.”
Students also credit their success in the program to CTPP faculty, including program manager Warren Ward.
“What truly sets the CTPP apart is the dedication of individuals like Mr. Ward, who go above and beyond to ensure that every participant not only gains the full value of the program but exceeds their own expectations,” Reese Yorgason, a senior computer information systems student, added. “This program has opened doors for me that I didn’t know existed and has been instrumental in shaping my future in cybersecurity”.
“The opportunity to serve CTPP students is an absolute blessing for me, personally,” Ward said. “The knowledge gained and the practical application through labs provide the students skills I wish were available when I was a student back in the 1980s. I believe this program is a real game changer.”
The CTPP opportunity will continue through the summer quarter of 2025. Students interested in being considered for the program can complete the application on AcademicWorks linked here.
